Quick answer: Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) charges £8 for the first 10 minutes in its Pick Up & Drop Off car park, and the price climbs the longer you stay. You can drop off for free in the One Hour Free Zone, a few minutes’ walk from the terminal. The simplest way to skip the charge, the parking bill and the double trip for whoever drives you is a pre-booked private hire transfer.

A lift to the airport used to be the free option. At Leeds Bradford, it no longer is.

LBA’s drop-off fee has risen several times in recent years. It now sits among the most expensive in the UK, level with London City and above Manchester, Luton and Newcastle. Pick-ups usually cost more again, because waiting for a delayed flight pushes you into the higher time bands.

This guide sets out what you will pay in 2026, how the drop-off zone works, where you can still drop off for free, and when a pre-booked transfer works out cheaper than a lift.

Leeds Bradford Airport Drop-Off Charges in 2026

The headline rate is £8 for up to 10 minutes, per the RAC’s summer 2026 survey of UK airports. That is up from £7 in January 2026, when the airport published the full rate card below.

How the LBA Drop-Off Zone Works

The Pick Up & Drop Off car park sits directly in front of the terminal, about a one-minute walk from the doors. It is ticketless: a camera reads your number plate on the way in, and you pay at the barrier on the way out.

  1. Follow the Pick Up & Drop Off signs from Whitehouse Lane (airport postcode LS19 7TZ).
  2. Use the car lane at the entry barrier. Minibuses and coaches have their own lane.
  3. Park in a bay, unload, and say your goodbyes quickly. The clock starts at the barrier, not when you stop.
  4. Pay by card at the exit barrier. The car park is cashless.

Three details catch drivers out:

  • The 10-minute band is short. Queues at the entry barrier and at the terminal kerb eat into it. Going over 10 minutes moves you into the next price band.
  • Size limits apply. The drop-off zone has a 1.9m height limit and a 2.4m width limit at the barrier. Some large vans and minibuses will not fit.
  • Pick-ups cost more in practice. If a flight lands late or bags are slow, a 10-minute wait easily becomes 30 minutes or more.

If you take a wrong turn onto the terminal approach road, the airport’s own guidance is to go through the Pick Up & Drop Off or Premium Short Stay barrier and use the intercom.

How to Avoid the Leeds Bradford Airport Drop-Off Charge

Yes, you can still drop off for free at LBA. The catch is distance, timing and, for pick-ups, waiting.

1. Use the One Hour Free Zone

The One Hour Free Zone is inside the Mid Stay car park, off Whitehouse Lane. Parking is free for up to 60 minutes, and the walk to the terminal takes about 3–5 minutes.

It works well for a drop-off with light luggage. It works less well in heavy rain, with young children or with several large cases, and for anyone with limited mobility. For pick-ups, a delayed flight can push you past the hour.

2. Drive a fully electric car

Fully electric cars used privately can stay in the Pick Up & Drop Off car park for up to 1 hour free, up to 2 visits a day. Taxis and other commercial vehicles do not qualify. Hybrids do not qualify either.

3. Use a Blue Badge concession

Blue Badge holders can use dedicated bays in the Pick Up & Drop Off car park for up to 60 minutes at a reduced rate. Check the current price and the validation steps on the airport’s assisted travel page.

4. Don’t need a lift at all

The drop-off fee only applies to the person driving you. Taking the bus, or booking a private hire transfer that is already priced in, removes it from your trip. Whoever would have driven you also saves two return journeys: one to drop you off and one to collect you.

Drop-Off vs Parking vs Private Hire: What a 7-Day Trip Really Costs

A “free” lift from a friend now costs around £20 in airport fees alone, before fuel and four motorway legs. Here is how the main options compare for a one-week trip from Leeds.

OptionAirport fees for a 7-day tripHidden costsBest for
Lift: paid drop-off + pick-upAbout £20.50 (£8 drop-off + £12.50 for a 20–30 min pick-up)Driver’s fuel and time for 4 journeys; more if the flight is lateShort trips with a flexible driver
Lift: One Hour Free Zone£03–5 min walk with luggage; risk of going past 60 min on pick-upLight luggage, good weather
Long Stay parking (turn-up rate)£165 (£57 first day + £18 × 6)Shuttle bus; car sits idle all weekDrivers who want their own car
Mid Stay parking (turn-up rate)£218 (£68 first day + £25 × 6)6–10 min walkDrivers who want to skip the shuttle
Pre-booked private hire£0None: the fare is fixed upfrontFamilies, early flights, late arrivals, heavy luggage

Parking figures use LBA’s January 2026 turn-up prices. Pre-booking online is often cheaper, so check the airport’s site for your dates.

For a return private hire fare, get a fixed quote for your exact address on the ETS Cars booking page. Couples and families often find it close to the cost of a week’s parking, without anyone driving or anyone paying to wait.

Why a Pre-Booked Transfer Takes the Drop-Off Problem Away

With a pre-booked private hire transfer, you never think about barriers, time bands or the walk from the free zone. Your driver handles the airport, and the fare you were quoted is the fare you pay.

  • One fixed fare. Your price is set when you book, with no surge pricing and no meter running in traffic.
  • Flight tracking on arrivals. Your driver follows your real landing time, so a delay doesn’t cost you extra.
  • Meet & greet. For a small add-on, your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board instead of circling the pick-up zone.
  • Door to door, any hour. Early departures and late arrivals are covered 24/7, from anywhere in Leeds, Bradford and across West Yorkshire.
  • The right vehicle. Choose from saloon, estate, executive, MPV or 8-seater, so luggage and car seats fit in one car.
